What is L8?
ACoP L8 is HSE’s Approved Code of Practice and guidance on controlling Legionella bacteria in water systems. HSG274 provides accompanying technical guidance. These are useful starting points when reviewing how water safety is managed at a building.
Start with the building, not a checklist
Before requesting a quote, gather the building use, water system details, current assessment and any monitoring records. A useful scope explains what needs reviewing and what information is already available.
Make responsibility clear
HSE explains that those managing the risk should appoint a competent responsible person and make responsibilities clear. Using a contractor does not remove the need to manage the arrangements at the premises.
